Goals of the Project

1. Reduce sediment loading in the 04100011-080-030 subwatershed of the Honey Creek by 3,936 tons/year.

Sediment Control Cost Share Options

Strip Till Corn - Defined as corn that is planted into mounded strip 8-12" wide, while leaving undisturbed residue in between.  These strips are formed using strip till implements such as those implements produced by Remlinger PSI, DMI, Blue Jet, etc.  These area examples only and do not constitue an endorsement nor do they exclude other brands,  This practice is recommended for fall use, but spring use may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

No-Till Corn - Defined as the drilling of beans using a no-till drill whereby the residuepm the top of the ground is not incorporated into the soil through mechanical means.

Aerway-Type Tillage - Defined as a tillage tool that aerates the top 6-10" of soil using ground driven rotating shatter tines.  Surface residue is preserved when this tool is properly used.  Example unit would be Aerway.  This is an example only and does not constitue an endorsement nor does it exclude other brands.

Fall Deep In-Line Tillage - Defined as deep tillage that does not bury residue yet shatters the compaction layers caused by plows, etc. (Chisel plows or V-Rippers of any type are not included.  Disk Rippers will be allowed if >30% residue remains).  Example units would be Unverferth Zone Builder, John Deere 2100, Tye Paratill, Great Plains In-line Sub Soiler, etc.  These are examples only and do not constitue endorsement nor dothey exclude other brands.

Shallow Vertical Tillage - Defined as tillage that loosens and levels hte top 1-3" of soil and which cuts/sizes residue, while maintaining surface residue. (Disks and Field Cultivators are not included.) Examples include Salford RTS, Great Plains Turbotill or Ultra Till, Phoenix Harrow, etc.  These are examples and do not constitue an endorsement nor do they exclude other brands.
